The aim of the project is to show children that if they take good care of small fruit bushes, they can enjoy not only good currants and gooseberries in the summer, but they can also prepare a lot of goodies for the winter. The project should also answer the questions: What are vitamins, why is fruit canned or frozen, how did we take care of the plants and why, what benefit do we get from it, what does a fruit bush need to grow and how does it change during the year.
This project is suitable as a joint activity for kindergarten and parents - joint planting, which can be combined with, for example, roasting sausages.
In the fall, children will plant small fruit bushes in the garden – currants, gooseberries, and depending on the location, raspberries. During the year, they will take care of them (e.g. spraying against overwintering pests in the spring), observe them as they bloom, as green clusters of balls begin to form, ripening, and harvesting. Throughout the year, children will keep documentation of the growth and care of the bushes (photographs, growth records, children's drawings). Children can observe the insects that occur on the bushes (beneficial and pests). At the end, an exhibition of children's drawings and creations on the given topic will be held in the kindergarten.
The following year, children can prepare (or at home with their parents) a preserve from the harvested crop and bring it to kindergarten - a tasting as part of a snack (on bread, in yogurt, in cottage cheese) or lunch (pancakes).
Task for children: Each child brings to kindergarten a little jam that they like the most and that they use at home. They spread it on bread, cut it into fish-like pieces, and everyone tastes it to see which one they like the most. This can be used as a snack idea.
Task for children: prepare and make a label for their own preserves.
