Spring flowerbed of bulbs
Designed for the period: autumn - spring
Calendar: planting in autumn (until the first frost)
Children should learn that there is always something going on in nature, they should be aware of the changing seasons – that when they plant onions in the ground in the fall, they “sleep” during the winter and wake up in the spring, along with all of nature. That each plant has its time. They should learn which flower is which, tell which one blooms first, which one later, …..
Explain to children why bulbs are put in plastic baskets (rodents, bulbs falling). After flowering, children should take care of removing the bulbs from the ground, cleaning them and storing them until next year. Talk to children about the dormant period and the growing season of plants. List other bulbous plants they know.
Task for children: for each group of plants – or for each one, children should make their own label, a sign. So that in the spring they can know which flower will grow where and be able to observe it from the very beginning. Children can also make small bags to store the bulbs after removing them from the ground (paper, various techniques)
